Areas of Expertise in Children:

Ms Cheung uses standardized tests and non-standardized tests to carry out developmental assessments for children’s cognitive, articulation, language, self-care and social developments, thereby making diagnoses of speech impairments, language impairments, voice impairments, fluency impairments (stuttering), dyslexia, and social communication impairments. Furthermore, specific treatment plans are tailor-made for different individual children, usually are in the forms of role plays and interactive activities.

For stages of language development, children should be able to say single words at around nine months to eighteen months, and link three to four words together at age three. If they are only capable in saying single words or short phrases at age three, or unable to comprehend and express well-formed sentences at age four, parents should seek help from speech therapists for assessing their children.

For stages of articulation development, children at age four to five should be able to communicate with others using correct speech sounds in their native language. If parents found children’s speech sound errors at the age of six, parents should seek help from speech therapists for assessing their children.

Areas of Expertise in the Elderly/Stroke Patients/Dementia Patients:

Ms Cheung uses standardized test and non-standardized test to assess their swallowing, language and communication abilities, so as to make diagnoses of dysphagia or aphasia, as well as set up treatment plans according to individual needs.
